Power Snackers Lemon Chia-Crunch

A friend was coming over for a business lunch. One hour, in and out. A salad? Fine. In 5 minutes, I chopped lettuce, red onion and apple, cut up some cherry tomatoes, cooked some shrimp.

My friend arrived, bearing gifts. A mega-chocolate cookie from the legendary Levain bakery. And a bag of something I’ve never encountered: Power Snackers Lemon Chia-Crunch. She took a few crackers out of the bag and broke them into small bits on the salad.

Did I notice the difference? There was a new sweetness to the salad — nothing dramatic, just the suggestion of sweetness. And a significant upgrade in nutritional goodness. Would they be good crumbled on yoghurt? I tried that. Yes.

Contents: a mix of almonds and walnuts, flax and sunflower seeds and reishi mushrooms blended with maca, lucuma, coconut, vanilla and lemon.

Taste? These are some customer reviews on Amazon:
– I think this is the best cracker I’ve ever had. Just dipped it in hummus and had a semi-barbaric instinct to not share it with anyone else.
– Most traded for at school!

Five crackers contain 140 calories — and 16% of daily dietary fiber, 208% of Vitamin B6, 38% of Vitamin C. They are vegan, raw, and organic, if any of those are important to you. They are also gluten free, kosher, and non-GMO. And the flax and chia are soaked before baking, so they create no dietary distress.

The bad news? Price. Three ounces – just three ounces! — cost $8.50. That’s $2.80 an ounce. [To buy 3 ounces of Chica Crunch on Amazon, click here.] A much better value: a 6-pack of 3-ounce bags for $31.66, or $5.30 an ounce. Still not cheap. [To buy a 6-pack for $31.66, click here.]

Suggestion: try a 3-ounce bag. If you’re over the moon for them, stock up. As I just did

(for LK, many thanks).
