The SlideBelt

Boy, do I wish I’d invented the SlideBelt.

I’m one of those guys who has worn the same clothes for decades. I replace khakis and button-down shirts every few years, buying only online and in bulk so I don’t have to set foot in a store. But I’m happiest when I never need to replace a favorite — like the Ralph Lauren blue-striped Oxford shirt I bought in 1992 and still wear.

One thing I’m not happy about: belts.

It’s the holes. Over time, they get bigger. And then the buckle prong pops out and slips into the next hole. Or it pops out and gives way entirely, and my pants drop to the point you could mistake me for a rapper.

No longer — I bought a SlideBelt.

A SlideBelt has no holes. It has ratchets. Cut the 48” belt down to your regular size — there are precise measurements to guide you, and a bread knife or sharp scissors will easily do the trick — and push it into the buckle and close the clasp. You’re done. The belt holds. And if you loosen it because you entered the hot dog eating contest, just tug on the end and you’re cinched tight again. It’s a nifty marriage of style and technology. And obvious. Other belt makers will soon feel some slippage — in their earnings. [To buy a Slidebelt from Amazon, click here.]

The SlideBelt is made of split grain leather. It comes in 11 colors. You have a choice of colors and finishes of the buckles. The leather strap is 1-1/4″ wide. (This is, happily, slightly smaller than the belt loop on Levi jeans for women, so it just might be a unisex belt.) The buckle is 1-5/8″ wide x 3-1/2″ long.

I chose a brown belt with a brushed gold buckle — it’s now the official belt of Head Butler.com — and hope never to buy another.
