The answer to a woman’s prayers in winter is the Orolay Thickened Down Jacket, or, as those who swear by it call it, “the Amazon coat.”

Orolay? Not a fashion brand. It’s a Chinese company that makes cabinets and folding chairs. If you go to its website, you will see that it was written in Chinese and poorly translated. And you will grasp that they’ve made, in essence, a knockoff of a coat by Canada Goose.

Feel free to buy the Canada Goose coat. To be helpful, here’s a link. Cost: $1,150.

Or perhaps you’d like the Triple F.A.T. Goose SAGA Collection | Estelle Womens Hooded Goose Down Jacket Parka with Real Coyote Fur. Here’s an Amazon link. Cost $500.

Or maybe you’d like to buy the Orolay coat, the one “everyone” is wearing. The shell is polyester. The filling is 90% white duck down, 10% feathers. It comes in colors: green, black, gray, beige, navy. red.

Oh, the price? $140-150. Here’s the Amazon link.

Cautionary note: This coat won’t last forever. Not waterproof. I’m sure zippers may break. But not $1,150.

What’s the big deal?

The back story: The “Amazon coat” craze started last year in New York, on the rich rich rich Upper East Side. Women liked its many pockets and casually stylish fit. And they didn’t hate the bargain price. “It makes me kind of smug,” a New Yorker said. “I’ll see a girl in a Canada Goose jacket and think, ‘I can have eight of these for that.’”

Of course there is an Instagram page — @theamazoncoat — of women wearing it.

Soon there won’t be a bird with feathers in China.
