Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker for PC, Cell Phone, Tablet & MP3 Player

Ever since she turned 11, the child has had only one thing to say to me.

“That is soooooo three months ago.”

Last week she said something else.

“I must have that.”

She meant a portable Bluetooth wireless, rechargeable mini speaker system.

We have recently moved, and, along the way, dumped wires. The computers are linked to the Internet through an Apple Airport Time Capsule. I no longer fear tripping on the wire that used to connect the printer to my Mac. And now, because our iPhones are loaded with music, I don’t have to listen to JJ Cale through those tiny speakers at the bottom of the phone or tether the phone to our uncool, so three years ago portable speaker.

The first thing about this AYL (Accessorise Your Life; yes, that’s how they spell it) speaker is that it’s cute. It’s about the size of a tennis ball, and just as light. The impulse to toss it to the person who wants to use it is hard to resist. And you have a choice of three colors.

What devices does it play nicely with? Whadya got? PC. Cell phone. Tablet. MP3 Player.

Performance? No speaker this small is going to give you thudding bass. Nor can you crank it loud enough to wake the neighbors. But it does deliver clear, accurate sound at reasonable volume. And you can adjust it. [To buy the AYL Wireless Portable Speaker from Amazon, click here.]

Ease of set-up? You will have to read the directions. But they are not odious. Or overly challenging — I set a speaker up, and I’m Mr. Plug ‘N Play.

Battery life? One reason it’s so light, it’s got a rechargeable lithium battery that can power the speaker for 10+ hours. How to charge? Not plugged into a wall socket. If you don’t connect it to your computer or plugged-in smartphone, you’ll need a charger (available at Amazon or any drug store).

Accessories? A cute carrying bag. Wire to connect the speaker for charging.

Warranty? Three years. We like that.

How wireless is it? The range is said to be 30 feet. But in our apartment, it never leaves the vicinity of the owner’s phone or computer. Distance involves risk — the risk that someone will make off with it.

If our experience is typical, bet you can’t have just one.

You haven’t lived until you’ve watched tech reviews. They can be very informative. They can even be charming. But, man, do those guys talk s-l-o-w.
