2014: The Greatest Hits

Published: Dec 22, 2014
Category: Beyond Classification

With this edition, I take a break. Going away? No. This happened, and now I’m writing the script. So far, so much fun. But I also have a pile of books to read, CDs to listen to, DVDs to watch, and I’m sure there will be days when I’m tempted to pound out a Butler piece, or rant about something. (Quick takes: See “The Imitation Game,” skip “Inherent Vice,” caffeinate heavily before you settle in to 150 minutes of “Mr. Turner, “ and if you haven’t bought tickets yet for the hot new Broadway hit, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night,” don’t.)

Quickly, before I put on my Hollywood hat, let me encourage you to use this break to start the 18-hour thrillfest that is Borgen. But mostly, let me not be the last to encourage you to step back from screens, breathe fresh air, hug a friend and kiss a lover — you know, get a life. (And let me remember to take my own advice.)

If the good Lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll see you again on Monday, January 5. Until then, here are a few of my 2014 favorites. Take good care.
